A member of the
Coomera CIB, Detective Senior Constable Damian Leeding was shot in the
face whilst attending an armed robbery at the Pacific Pines Tavern on
the Gold Coast on 29 May, 2011. Detective Leeding passed away while in hospital
three days later*. Detective Senior Constable Leeding is survived by his wife Sonya, and children, two-year-old Hudson and three-month-old Grace. Two men and a woman from Nerang on the Gold Coast have been arrested and charged with Detective Senior Constable Leeding's murder, armed robbery and seven counts of deprivation of liberty. |
On
the 8th June, Senior Constable Leeding was laid to rest with full
police honours. Thousands of serving police from Australia, New
Zealand, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Royal
Canadian
Mounted Police, together with the Premier of Queensland Anna
Bligh, Police Minister
Neil Roberts,
members of the emergency services and general public packed the Gold
Coast Convention Centre for the
funeral service. Assistant Commissioner Paul Wilson announced at the funeral that Detective Senior Constable Leeding will be postimously awarded the Queensland Police Service medals for valour and diligent and ethical service.
